Step back in time to the "Gilded Age" in a house built for entertaining Hannibal society, shortly before the turn of the century (1871).
John L. Robards, an attorney and lifelong friend of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), built this house for his wife and three children.
It boasts one of only two flying staircases in Hannibal, which circle all the way to the third floor.
The house is an example of classic Italianate, with massive woodwork and interior brick walls.
Some wonderful plaster coffered ceilings have been uncovered and restored. Many of the 9-foot windows still have the original inside shutters to shut out sun and cold.
