Blue Waters Mountain Lodge is conveniently located on the banks of Santeetlah Lake. Santeetlah covers 2,800 acres and is a man made reservoir. The lake attracts water sports of all kinds, including water skiing, swimming, canoeing, boating, and jet skiing. The Lodge can make arrangements for you to rent pontoons, fishing boats, ski boats, and wave runners.
Whitewater activities are available on nearby Nantahala River, including rafting, canoeing, and kayaking. A short drive takes you to whitewater adventures on the Ocoee River, home of the 1996 Summer Olympic Whitewater Event.
Hundreds of miles of hiking trails originate just a short distance from the Lodge including the Appalachian Trail to Cheoah Bald from Stecoah Gap (12.5 miles round trip), Wauchecha Bald Trail #47 (16.5 miles round trip), Bear Creek Trail (6.5 miles round trip). The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, with its giant Hemlocks and Tulip Poplars over 500 years old, is only a short distance from the Lodge. Many of the trees you will see on the Forest’s hiking trails are over 20 feet in circumference and 150 feet tall. |

Other area points of interest within ten miles of the Lodge include Chief Junaluska’s Grave, the Origination Point of the Trail of Tears, the town of Robbinsville (film location for much of the movie “Nell”), and the scenic Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville, North Carolina and Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Within a two-hour drive are the Tennessee tourist destinations of Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the nation’s most visited park in the National Park System.
